Reveal mechanics
I am thoroughly confused here after posting elsewhere.
Earlier today, opponent plays Shuri turn 4. Going into turn 5 I am winning, so “reveal” first and play Gambit who discards my card and then removed Shuri from my opponents side. The opponents card that they played then is revealed, Red Skull who still had their power doubled by Shuri.
I have had people try to explain to me that this is correct.
I don’t see how when if your opponent “reveals” first with a Cosmo, your Rescue, White Tiger, Spectrum, etc reveal effect never happens if both cards were played that turn in the same lane.
Please help my confusion

On Reveal effects are not negated just because a card dies. A dead Iron Fist still moves the next card, Shuri still buffs the next card, etc.
So destroying an On Reveal card after its effect already triggered doesn't change anything.
However, Cosmo explicitly does prevent On Reveal effects from triggering. If an On Reveal card is played on the same location as Cosmo on the same turn, there are two options:
1. Cosmo reveals last and thus is not effectively on the location when the On Reveal is revealed and thus triggers; so the effect is not negated (see above).
2. Cosmo reveals first and his effect is indeed on the location when the On Reveal is revealed; so it is stopped.
I hope this explains the mechanics, if it doesn't feel free to ask!

That is utterly stupid and would be the first house rule I would introduce if this were a physical game. Card has to be present and on reveal effect active for it to affect any other card. Wow….

It's not stupid, it's exactly how other card games like Magic: The Gathering work too. Destroying a card doesn't randomly negate the enter the battlefield effects.

that's not what "on reveal" means. "on reveal" means "on reveal." shuri's ability activates ON REVEAL. when she is REVEALED. it seems pretty clear to me idk.

When would Red Skull “have entered” the battlefield? When placed down, or when flipped over?

Posted by 343876
i believe his power is determined before he flips over, but i don't think there is a situation in which it matters

Posted by 343876
that changes nothing with shuri's text though

Posted by 101323
I am arguing not so much her text but the fact that Shuri wasn’t there when Red Skull flipped over, or as I perceive it, when he was revealed.

shuri's ability has nothing to do with when the next card is revealed. it has to do with when she is revealed. that is what on reveal abilities do and mean

Analogy time…. I announce the next person who meets me at a specific location will get a gift from me. I leave and never return before the next person arrives. Does the next person who arrives get that gift? No I am not there. Hence why if an On Reveal card is not there, it’s effect should not apply

Posted by 343876
yeah that's not the case. in this case, as soon as you arrive at the location. you put the gift at your feet. the gift is now separate from your body and the gift does not care if you continue to stand next to it or take the next flight to china, never to be heard from again. the gift is still there

Posted by 101323
And when gambit rolled into that location, he killed that gift. There is NO counter. Wonder if the upcoming Shuri nerf is….

Posted by 343876
i mean you can argue all you want but it doesn't make you right. in your example, gambit killed YOU. the gift is still sitting there by your empty shoes. it is invincible and cannot be prevented in any way once it is place

Listen, I get it now…. 100% understand where I got confused. I can be 100% wrong, but I still think it is utterly dumb. Would house rule that in a physical game.

That's the entire point of on reveal effects, they are activated once the card is revealed
If you hazmat someone and then your hazmat is destroyed, the cards don't revert to their original power
If you cloak someone and then your cloak is destroyed, you can still move cards to that location the next turn. This is a good example because it's a delayed on reveal just like shuri
If you heimdall and then it gets destroyed, the cards don't all move back to the right lol

Posted by 343876
you can't call back on reveal effects once they are activated, which makes total and complete sense

Posted by 101323
Ok hazmat, I would not expect for the damage to be undone. However, cards unflipped after she is de-powered or removed from play in the same turn should not have their power reduced though.

Forge, Iron Fist, Cloak, Zero, and Shuri all have similar effects that work the same way. They are a delayed on reveal and the only cards in the game like that, where their effect persists after death. but it makes total sense that it would. it's consistent across this game and other games too
